Tribecards from Outer Space: Truly Vintage

Heritgae, Vintage, Retro... Whatever you call it, the term just means "we couldn't think of a new design, so we're going to use an old one and hope that everyone either loves it or doesn't remember it i the first place." Rarely is it either, at least in my opinion.

Well, tonight, I have a special treat. We're doing ACTUAL vintage cards from 1978. Yes, you read that right. As I mentioned in the 1979 card post, these packs appear to have been opened, searched, then resealed. I don't even care, really. I got a good deal on cards that came out back when I wasn't even a 10-year old yet. How do you argue with that?

My brother and I always referred to these as "The Written Kind" because the team names were in a sorta-script font (not that we knew what a 'font' was back then).

Jerry Remy - Angels - FREE AGENT
Jim Kaat - Phillies - FREE AGENT
John Candelaria/Frank Tanana - Pirates/Angels - FREE AGENT/FREE AGENT
Pat Rockett - Braves - FREE AGENT
Joe Lahoud - Royals - FREE AGENT
Steve Kemp - Tigers - DonSherm (Wahoo!!)
Jesse Jefferson - Blue Jays - FREE AGENT
Pete Redfern - Twins - FREE AGENT
Mike Torrez - Red Sox - FREE AGENT
Santo Alcala - Expos - FREE AGENT
Jim Spencer - White Sox - FREE AGENT
Greg Minton - Giants - FREE AGENT
Doug Rader - Blue Jays - FREE AGENT
Earl Weaver - Orioles - FREE AGENT

Wow, only one hit in the whole pack! Congrats to Don! I've mentioned before that Don lives in a town not far from me. In fact, I used to work in that town many years ago! We also just added a BUNCH of players to the Free Agent Draft for this coming Friday! I've got a couple that I am going to try to get. How about you?

  1. I needed Kaat for my '78 set up until 2 weekends ago when I finally caved and picked him up for a quarter.

Who would have known that I could have potentially snagged him in the "Tribecards from Out Space"! Oh, the luck!

  2. 78 was the first year that I started collecting. That was a really nice pack.

  3. Who in their right mind would reseal a Pat Rockett card back in a pack?!
