182 Packs of Baseball - 035

Howdy! We're here on Day 35 of the 182-day pack break.  I hope you're enjoying the show and coming up with some cards you need for your collections.  Today's pack is a 1986 Donruss Major League All-Stars.  Who did we free from the trappings of cellophane today?

Hank Aaron - Braves - Puzzle 16, 17, 18
Dave Winfield - Yankees - Pop-up
Ernie Whitt - Blue Jays
Willie McGhee - Cardinals
Wade Boggs - Red Sox

That's a pretty good mix of players from that era.  The Winfield bunting pop-up would be cool to see in 3d.  No worries, I'm not going to set it up.  I'll leave that to the discretion of its new owner.

Each day of the regular baseball season, I am busting open a pack of baseball cards.  These are packs that I have laying around and/or that I have purchased recently on a whim.  I list the cards in the pack and scan in some of them.  I shoot for 9 cards, but sometimes I may scan more, other times fewer.  It all depends on how things hit me in that particular pack.  Oh yes, there will be duplication.  I have a TON of packs from certain brands/years.  I will, however, try to mix things up throughout the season.

For those keeping score, I know there are not actually 182 GAMEDAYS in the 2012 season.  I am counting ALL the days between Opening Day and the last day of the regular season.  Frankly, it's easier that way.  Thanks for playing along.

Also, you are welcome to claim teams/players (Max 3 total). Rules are at the following:

182 Packs of Baseball - 034

Okay, folks, today we are opening a pack of 1998 Stadium Club Hobby Edition.  As before, these are "The Evens."  Each card will have an even number, except for any inserts.  Those will have whatever numbering scheme Topps came up with.  Good luck!

Mark Wohlers - Braves
Juan Gonzalez - Rangers
Dante Bichette - Rockies
Stan Javier - Giants
Eric Karros - Dodgers

Matt Beech - Phillies
Jose Vidro - Expos
Jim Leyritz - Red Sox - TRANSACTIONS
Andy Benes - Diamondbacks - EXPANSION
Checklist 2 of 2

Gonzalez looks like he's learning how to stand on one foot... The TOP of one foot.  Bichette poses in the bullpen car.  Really?  I guess since it was parked in the warning track, he figured "Why Not?"  The Beech card is actually very cool - blurred batter, ball in mid-pitch.  Kudos to the photographer on this one.

182 Packs - quick note

Hey all, I want to thank everyone that has been taking part in the breaks!  I also thank all of those that have been spreading the word about the giveaways.

If you're spreading the word, please remember that NOTHING is required to participate!  You don't have to send Indians cards or money or even old wrappers.  Just sign up (read other posts for the links), pick your team(s)/player(s) and enjoy the ride.

The key is to check the link at the top of this page, as it shows the order in which people have made their choices.  Remember, order of selection matters.

182 Packs of Baseball - 033

Welcome to another Monday.  Usually, people can't stand to think about all the things they have to do during the week, especially on Monday.  Well, before you get out you calendars and schedules, let's see what bit of cardboard goodness lies in wait for us.

How about a pack of 2005 Topps Series One?  Wow, I didn't even realize I had this one.  Must have come as part of a repack box.  Let's dig in.

Larry Bowa - Phillies
Mike Hampton - Braves
Chad Fox - Marlins

2004 Home Run Leaders - Manny Ramirez (Red Sox), Paul Konerko (White Sox), David Ortiz (Red Sox)
Barry Zito - A's
Mike Matheny - Cardinals

Well, based on the fact that there are TWO Red Sox players on the HR Leaders card, that is going to the first Red Sox fan on the list.  Congrats!

182 Packs of Baseball - 032

Welcome to sexto de Mayo!  Oh, sure, that's not a real thing, but what difference does it make when you're BUSTING WAX!?  Yeah, that's right. I'm still cookin' here.  Maybe a little Pack-punch drunk, but still groovin just the same.  Thanks for coming along with me.

Reaching into the pack box, I grab: 2006 Topps Opening Day - with Bazooka Gum in every pack!

Alfonso Soriano - Nationals
Luis Castillo - Twins
Dmitri Young - Tigers
Rich Harden - A's

Wily Mo Pena - Reds
Nick Swisher - A's
Jack Wilson - Pirates - Sports Illustrated for Kids MAX ACTION
Work Hard, Get Cards insert

The "Max Action" card is pretty cool, though closer inspection sure makes it look like a bad photoshop job there to the left near his head.  I can only assume that his jersey is riding up weirdly as he's running.  Otherwise, someone lopped off half his shoulder there.
