A slight rain delay in the 182 Packs of Baseball

4/20 UPDATE: I mistakenly had Kary listed as Dodgers. She actually asked for Brewers. The list has been adjusted!

4/19 UPDATE NOTE:  Remember, folks can respond to *ANY* post with a request (I get emails when someone does), so they may not appear on *this* page.  No, actually, I have an idea.  I will post the most up-to-date TEAM list here. Players, weird cards, etc will not be updated here, but you can see those on the "Registered" page above.  So, at the BOTTOM of this post, you will find up-to-date team requests/participants.  Thanks for playing along!

The response for trades/cards opened during the 182 Packs of Baseball has quickly reached a point where I need to come up with some kind of system.  So, here's my plan:

I get all singles and first doubles of Indians cards/players.  The rest are up for grabs.

Captain Canuck gets any single of any Braves that I pull, if he wants them. Doubles will moved into another pile (to be explained in a moment).  It's the reward for responding first. :-)

The Lincecum and Kershaw inserts from Day 001 go to Adam. He asked first. That's how I roll.

All singles of Mark Grace and Stadium Clubs (1993 and up) will go to Andy (unless they are Braves, then Andy gets single cards of any doubles).  Doubles will be moved into another pile (again, explained in a moment).  He asked first.

All singles of Tony Gwynn, Kerry Wood (unless in an Indians uni), and Frank Thomas will go to Jon if Jon says he wants them. If not, then they will go into the "other" pile(s).

Now, on to "the other" piles.  Pick players or teams. Don't get greedy.  I say a limit of THREE TOTAL is more than fair.  That is any combination of teams/players up to THREE TOTAL.  (Ex: Mets, Dodgers, Mark McGwire.  Or, Sammy Sosa, Albert Pujols, Pirates. You get the gist).  And, your request can also be for things like "players signing autographs" or whatever.  I will have to individually evaluate any of those kinds of requests, though. Sorry, but a lot of times, I can't tell if a photo is a night game or not, so "Night Games" probably won't be an option.  Well, I suppose it could be if it is blatantly obvious that it's a night game.  Haha, and if you're thinking of something like, "All cards with BLUE on them," uh, no.

I am giving these away at the end of the regular season.  You can send me Indians cards as trades if you want, or you can send a little money to cover postage if you want, or you can say, "Wow! Thanks for the cards," if you want.  Those of you that have followed along with me over the years know that is exactly how I operate.  I expect nothing in return, but I never pass up a gift of Tribecards!

Your request will be lined out in the order I receive it. So, if I get two requests for Yankees cards, the first person gets dibs on all singles and first doubles.  The second person gets dibs on singles from the remaining doubles, and so forth.  Basically, no one should end up with doubles.  Of course, if someone requested a certain player from the Yankees BEFORE the Yankees team request, the player-person would get the first copy of that player.  This sounds way more complicated than it is.

All unclaimed teams/players/cards will go into some big pot to be given away during the World Series.

Oh, and the LAST DAY to sign up for free cards is the last day of the regular season.  So, theoretically, you could wait until the end to decide which player(s) and/or team(s) you'd like. I wouldn't do that.  First, you risk the chance of losing out on cards you want. Second, it is way more fun to watch your collection build before your eyes each day. :-)

So, respond to this post (or any of the 182 Days posts, really).  First come, first served.  I maintain the right to limit folks/reject requests if I need to.  My goal is to spread the joy of collecting cardboard.  Everybody into the pool!

PS - Once you're on "the list," please send me your username (that you responded with) and your mailing address.  My database is woefully out of date, so I need everyone's address that wants to play along. Thanks!

We now return you to the 182 Packs of Baseball program... Er, well, almost:

  4. Matthew R has first whack at Giants.

Remember, more than one person can claim a team, too.

  5. I'd like to get in for the Rockies, Don Baylor, and Buddy Bell. Thank you very much and I'm sure some Indians will find their way to you for this generosity. Well as soon as I actually get some, they are my smallest team stack ATM by far.

  10. Random Cards of Kindness by any other name...

    Put me down for:
    *Diamondbacks - for my dad
    *Expos - for my dad
*Orel Hershiser (Any I don't need will become a starter OH collection for a contest to be held after the season.)

  11. I would like singles of Detroit Tigers please.

  12. Put me down for
-funny/unusual photos (I'll leave it up to you to define)
-unclaimed minor league cards (don't know if you are planning to open any minor league packs)

    Thanks!

  13. Mark A - Diamondbacks, Expos, Hershiser

    Don - Tigers

Bo - Funny/unusual, unclaimed minor leagues

And, Bo, there probably will minor leagues (Bowman, etc). I really hadn't thought of it before. So, I'll have to see what I need to do about those. Most likely, if the MLB team is known/shown, it will go to that claimant first. If not, it's going in as "unclaimed." Hey, I make the rules.

  14. Dave I would like the Padres, Mariners and Bip Roberts. Thanks for this. realize I am second in line for Gwynn.

    ReplyDelete
  15. You're in, Rod. Wow. You actually *WANT* to be Bipped? That is all kinds of wrong there... Hahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't know how I missed this.

I'll say Rangers, Will Clark and plays at the plate.

Thanks sir and I'll sock away some Tribers for you.

    ReplyDelete
  17. If they are still available, I would love the Royals, please!

(coincidentally, they have not been doing very well in your break! :-) )

    ReplyDelete
  18. PatP - Rangers, Clark, and plays at the plate - you got em, as per rules. :-)

Josh - You got the Royals to yourself so far, as per rules. :-)

*"as per rules" just means that folks before you who picked those teams/players on those teams get dibs then you next cards, if others claimed such teams/players.

Remember, more than one person can claim any team/player because of the duplication system I'm using - no one should end up with duplicates!

  19. Twins and Brewers, please.

    ReplyDelete
  20. White Sox, Paul Konerko (any team), Tom Seaver (any team).

Thanks for this, I'll be sure to pick up something to send your way.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Kary and Jeff, I got ya covered. Thanks for playing along!

    ReplyDelete
  22. David- I know you want all singles and first doubles of the Indians, and Baseball Dad probably is wanting Indians, but could I put my name in for the Indians as well? If you are not able to do that, I would like to put my name down for Albert Pujols, Cal Ripken Jr and Ryan Zimmerman.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Actually, there has not been a claim for Tribers, so you're in. I also put you in for Pujols and Ripken Jr.

  24. OOOO... I think the Mets are still up for grabs, maybe Gary Carter cards too, in case you crack open some early 80's stuff with Expos cards? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You're in for Mets. Remember, you'll get first singles of the doubles of Expos since MarkA gets first dibs on first singles. :-) I'm sure there will be plenty to go around.

  30. If there are any Tino Martinez and Paul O'Neill in Yankee uniforms, count me in.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Okay, you're in for those. Just remember, you'll be getting doubles that filter down to you. You can also add a third choice if you like.

      Delete
  31. If I can jump in on this (little late, but not too late I hope.

    1) Mark Buehrle
    2) doubles of White Sox not claimed by Mr. Law
    3) and how about players in throwback uniforms (doubles or cards that trickle through other criteria)

Is that 3rd choice bizarre enough? Should I pick something different?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It is not too late! Sign-ups run for the course of the break (that is, throughout the regular season)! I've got you down for your choices. LOL, the third one may take a bit of sleuthing. Should be fun!

      Delete
  32. I don't think I've seen any of these on the list so far, so I'd like to claim:
    1) St Louis Cardinals
    2) Nomar Garciaparra
    3) Mark McGwire

    Thanks a lot!

    1. Actually, Andy posted Cubs request on another post. I know, it is hard to keep up from a reader's perspective. But, I get an email for each response and they are logged in order. You are still in for duplicate Cubs, though! And for the Brett's and Griffey's that are not taken by previous requests. I hope that makes sense. If not, let me know and I'll try to do better in explaining how this all goes down. Thanks for playing along!

  34. Also anything George Brett or Griffey Jr for my PCs

  35. If you want, you can send me players from WV that haven't been claimed yet. Also, hot about cards with bad airbrushing/Photoshopping? :-P
