Notes:
** Topps Rub-Downs feature multiple players on each "card." I will attempt to distribute the cards as equally as I can among the chosen teams. I will also try to keep duplicates to a minimum.
** Topps Foldouts feature an accordion-style package with each card featuring two players (one on each side of each card). I will carefully cut the foldouts in the "white space" between players. As above, I will attempt to distribute the cards as equally as I can among chosen teams.
** Some teams may be "over-represented" while others may be lacking. There isn't anything I can do about that. As in any group break, some folks rake it in and others aren't quite as lucky. As always, I will toss in some additional cards/items to anyone that I feel didn't quite come out "in the good."
** Unclaimed teams will have their cards placed in a pile. That pile will then be distributed among everyone.
** I am taking the Indians in this break. Duplicates/owned cards will go into my "giveaway/prize" pool!
** Other notes/rules may be added as necessary.

Lucky Breaks
I recently participated in two, er technically three, group breaks and a contest. The first was a 2006 Ovation break in which everyone participating agreed to receive a full set plus any "hits" and extras of the team of their choice. In addition to the team of their choice, each person was assigned a second team for which they would receive cards. Thank to the Daily Dimwit's "true group break" thinking on this one. Very clever way to go! So, what did I walk away with?
The second and third breaks come from A Cardboard Problem. I initially signed up for just the Facebook break, but decided to add the blog break at the last minute. Man, it's a good thing I did!
First up, we have a few Fellers:
I also snagged a nearly full 100-count box of base Series 2 Indians cards featuring 12 players (and lots of duplicates to go around!):
In addition to the base cards, I also managed a few cool inserts, parallels, etc:
The last card I have to show came from a cool giveaway done by TheDiamondKing in which winners chose their preferred card from a list. Through process of elimination (that is, someone else's selection), the cards were handed out in something of a "law of diminishing possibilities." I was sort of in the middle of the pack for picking, so I chose the 2010 Topps Tribute Alex Rodriguez dual GU #'d /99:
First up, a Travis Hafner "Superstar Theater" card. These are kinda cool in a cheesy sort of way. It reminds me of something I would create.
Above are the base cards featuring Hafner, Martinez, and Sizemore. The cards have that Ovation embossed baseball thing going on, and have always been one of my favorite sets.
The six-pack above shows off a game-used Hafner, two gold parallel Indians, and three Serially-numbered Dodgers. Dodgers!? Yeap, I was given the Dodgers as my second team, and pulling these made it all worth getting that team. The Ethier is getting shipped to Night Owl to enjoy!
The second and third breaks come from A Cardboard Problem. I initially signed up for just the Facebook break, but decided to add the blog break at the last minute. Man, it's a good thing I did!
First up, we have a few Fellers:
I have to say, that leather nameplate is one sweet card! I think it is time to update ye olde site banner!
I also snagged a nearly full 100-count box of base Series 2 Indians cards featuring 12 players (and lots of duplicates to go around!):
Why is it that Nix is the only one that gets a horizontal card? I mean, why bother? Make them all verticals and call it good. Oh well, guess that's one of 80,000 reasons I am not on the Topps design team.
In addition to the base cards, I also managed a few cool inserts, parallels, etc:
Above, we see a few gold cards and refractor inserts plus I had a couple of Sizemore Toppstown code cards. Oh, I also received a handful of the Diamond Giveaway cards. I'll be exchanging the Toppstown codes for new clubhouse swag soon. My daughter loves Toppstown.
Finishing out the Cardboard Problem group breaks, I snagged a couple Roberto Alomar and Manny Ramirez retro cards along with a Josh Tomlin autograph card. Sweet!
Is that not one sweet card!? Ohhh yeah! My son is a huge A-Rod fan, so I may be putting this one in my non-Tribers collection. Thanks, Kevin!
And, thanks to EVERYONE that held these breaks!

Quick question - Andre Ethier Ovation Card
UPDATE - yeah, already! I found it - NightOwl on Twitter. :-) Sure, I could delete this post, but where's the fun in that?
Heya readers!
Someone asked me about the Andre Ethier card I got in the Ovation Group Break over at the Daily Dimwit. My apologies, but I cannot remember who asked about the card. If you will let me know (and let me know where/how you asked so I can attempt to verify), I'll get the card to ya!
Thanks,
--David

Buck-A-Box: Mailed Out, Finally! ..and rambling..
Hey everyone! My apologies for the folks that participated in the Buck-A-Box Break, but I was just today (Friday) able to mail out your bubbleopes! Things were too busy at work for me to get them mailed during lunch as I had planned. Luckily, we are off on Fridays since we work longer weekdays. That means you had to wait just a few more days than I had originally planned to ship them off.
I have to get an address from MattR, which amazes me considering how much trading/giveaway we've done over the years. Chalk it up to my aging, I guess.
Everyone else is good to go. After a quick review of notes, I realized I did not send the mini sportflics trivia cards from Mark to Paul. So, you two will have to work that out between you.
Not that I've been posting with any consistency lately anyway, I thought I would say that Tribecards may be a bit slow this coming week as the family will be heading to Washington, DC, for our annual "Let's get out of Arkansas" vacation! We will be taking in a Nationals game while we're there!
One of the biggest additions we made to our vacations is baseball game attendance! Starting with our trip to Chicago in 2005 (we watched the Sox since the Cubs were out of town), we've made sure that we catch a game during our time away from home. We did miss the year we went to Disney World, but you won't hear us complain on that one!

Win a chance to play catch... with a football player?
Yeah, you read that correctly. The Indians are taking names for a chance to play catch on-field at Jacob's, er Progressive, Field on Father's Day. Will the winner(s) play catch with a current Indians player? No. I know, I know, how about a former player? Nope. Who then? The winner(s) get to catch a football on-field with HOFer Joe DeLamielluere. No offense to Mr. DeLamielluere, but I had no idea who he was until I researched him for this post. I'll let you Google him. After all, my issue here is the concept.
On Father's Day, some lucky winner will get to play catch with the HOFer after the baseball game. Oh, and the promotion on Father's Day is this: The first 7000 kids under 12 get a free pass to the Hall of Fame... The FOOTBALL Hall of Fame. And, the kids get a free pack of Panini Adrenyln football cards. At the Indians game. On Father's Day. Am I the only one that sees this a great injustice to America's Pasttime? I mean, come on. The Indians are playing the Pirates that day. Why not get one of the Tribers to throw a few balls after the game? How about snagging any one of the hundreds of former Indians (or a few dozen for that matter) to play catch? And, what's up with football cards at a baseball game? I foresee a lot of cardboard going to the trash bins and/or to the stadium floors to be trampled like discarded toilet paper stuck to the bottom of one's shoe.
Maybe it's just the semi-purist in me, but I think the Indians, the Browns, and the FBHOF missed the boat on this one. Does baseball really need such a booster shot in the arm that they have to bring in a football HOFer to try and rally the crowds to come out on Father's Day? And, DOES that rally the crowds?
Well, if you're interested, here is the contest info and entry form. And, if you win, tell 'em Tribecards sent you. That'll confuse them instead.

When Mark gets IADD, Tribecards wins (and so do the Indians!)
Mark, from over at marksephemera, sent me an email a few weeks ago. In it, he explained that he had found an audio file (er, actually a few files) while getting distracted online and had culled together an Indians-Senators game from 1939, using Audacity.
He gave me a link to the file (which may or may not still exist at: http://markaubrey.org/files/IndiansSenators1939.mp3 (Caution: 73 MB file ahead!)
The audio is the broadcast of the game from WJSV in Washington. It starts around 4:00 pm which happens to also be the 4th inning, if memory serves. The broadcast then continues for the remainder of the game.
The trip back in time conjures up images of fancily dressed men and women out for an afternoon of baseball. The announcer often refers to the women as "the fairer sex" and makes comments about certain players and the cat calls from the females in the crowd. Ah, life was such a simpler time. Wait, that's not much different then today. Though today, the cat calls tend to be much more vivid. The crowd in the game sounded a bit thin. A quick box score check, and we find that 5,000 people attended the game. Hey isn't that how many people attend Nationals games now? Okay, okay, that was a cheap shot - especially given that my family will be in DC this coming week and will be taking in a Nationals game while in the Capital City. I digress (often).
I listened to the game over the course of three commutes to work (to work, home, then to work the next day). I have to say, the game was a bit slow-going there for a while, but then the Senators came to life, and I found myself engrossed in the action. I was YELLING at the sound coming from my car's speakers as if the game were live. Mark was gracious enough not to tell me anything about the game, and I did not look up any stats before listening to it. I wanted to hear it for the first time as if it were really live. The Indians rallied in an incredible 6-run inning! I was cheering right along with the fans that yelled out along with each step across home plate. I was surprised at how many of the fans seemed to be cheering no matter who scored or who hit the ball. There were some "boos," but mostly it was just cheering and the sounds of folks having a great time at the ball park.
What I found myself listening for was the commercials. There werent any. Now, I don't know if those were edited out, but it didn't sound like it. Between innings, the announcers took turns talking about the game (or mostly about upcoming personal appearances). It was wonderful. Instead of the game sounding like a series of commercials interrupted by a ballgame, we had a ballgame with a few "commercials" worked in. If there was any music to be heard, I don't remember it - no walk-on tunes, no popular music blaring in the background, not even an organist that I recall.
Maybe I just have an old soul, but I loved every single moment of the program, and I cannot thank Mark enough for taking time out of his day to put this together for an Indians fan!

Buck-A-Box: Afterthoughts
Ah, the unique feel of (purportedly) unopened boxes of baseball cards and the anticipation of finding out what's inside - THAT is what busting wax is all about. Add to the mix a dozen and a half of your closest friends (or folks that happened along to join the fun) to share in the joys, surprises, disappointments and glories of the box breaks, then spend the better part of a day off recording each and every card pulled from the unwrapped treasures. It is my addiction - cardboard and, more importantly, sharing that cardboard with folks from around the world!
Most of the participants are from the United States, but I also busted wax for longtime trading friends in Canada and England! Even now, having just typed that, it boggles my mind. As a kid growing up in the outskirts of Pittsburgh, it never would have entered my mind that one day I would opening packs of baseball cards to ship to the reaches of the world. That is awesome. Can I say it? Sure, I can: I love the Internet. Thanks, Al Gore, for inventing it. (For the record, I know he didn't. Because, I did. Oh, wait, I would have had to invented it before I was born. Yeah, that's about right. Okay, I did it. Where was I?)
As for the contents of the breaks themselves, I was actually a bit disappointed that the Heads-Up box was actually a complete set disguised as a box of pin-ups. Granted, we were one short, but NO duplication at all!? In the 90's!? Surely that is a fluke deserving a full-blown investigation. I will say, though, those are some very cool oddball items. And, if you're a regular reader here, you know I loves me some oddball cards. As per the rules, I did not take any of them, however. I gave out all the unclaimed teams to all the participants. After all, this was really YOUR break. I was just the guy hosting it. Don't feel bad, though. When it looked like the seller had bailed on sending them, I snagged another box for backup. Well, the first box arrived and then the second one came. So, I have another unopened (supposedly) box I may break later.
The Allen and Ginter proved to be a huge benefit to Mark A. His request to grab up all non-team cards really paid off in the A&G. Well, I suppose that depends on how many of the cards he actually needed, but still. I also managed to pull a Cliff Lee card which was handed over to my fellow Indians-breaker. Actually, when all said and done, I only kept two of the Indians cards from the break: A Bowman and a Sportflics trivia card. All the other cards from the break were passed along (in addition to some "bonus" Tribe cards). Back to the A&G - Some of the participants ended up with nice parallels (mini black borders, etc) though we pulled no game-used or serially numbered cards. Bummer. Maybe next time, eh.
The Bowman showed off Topps collation prowess at work. If memory serves, we had fewer than five duplicates between two boxes. Not bad. But, like in the A&G, we didn't see any game-used, serials, or auto's. There was also no sign of Mr. Harper anywhere. Not that I really cared, but I'm sure Ryan would have loved to watch a Harper auto spill out of one of the packs. Oh, I almost forgot - Joe C did pull a blue parallel! That was cool. Joe Cool, as he would say, I'm sure.
The Sportflics proved to be the most labor-intensive of the breaks. 36 packs of cards, each containing three actual cards and two mini trivia cards. Here is where Mark wished he could come through the wires and choke me. You see, many of the mini trivia cards did not feature a specific team on the front. Well, that's a non-team card, so it goes to Mark. Heh-heh. Like being Bipped or Alomar'd, only I might imagine it to be a tad worse, give then size of the dastardly things. In what can only be determined by some supernatural force at work, out of all 36 packs, there were NO White Sox players to be found. Zero. That just seems very, very peculiar to me.
As a bonus, I went through cards I have been accumulating since my last great giveaway (which depleted my stash, intentionally) and tossed in a few extras. I believe everyone gets something extra, but if you didn't, I apologize - it just means I didn't have anything I thought was worth it. I don't want anyone thinking they were cheated or ripped off. I suppose that is inevitable with these kinds of projects, but I at least try to make folks feel it was worth it - after all, I'll have more of these and would love folks to come back for more or spread the word that what they got was worth the price of admission.
The packages should ship out on Monday - possibly Tuesday.
Thanks to everyone that took part! Thanks for reading along and as much as I'd like to wish your respective teams well, I have to say.... LET'S GO TRIBE!! Er, Happy Collecting!

Buck-A-Box: 2011 Bowman Box 2
It's hard to believe that roughly five hours after starting the 5-box break, I have reached the end of the line. Buck-A-Box: 1988 Sportflics
Whew! This is the fourth box in the break! This one took longer because it had a lot of packs and I had to stop to eat and knock a few "honey-dos" off my list. One very strange thing happened with this break: Aside from mini trivia cards, I pulled ZERO White Sox cards! How does an entire box of cards not contain one specific team!? That is way too bizarre for me. And, so far as I can tell, the packs were factory sealed (no tampering that I could find). I'm hoping the Bowman break serves the White Sox well because things do not look good for them right now.
Here is the list of cards busted out of this box:
