2000 Upper Deck PowerDeck Manny Ramirez

I received this little jewel as part of package I got from PunkRockPaint many, many moons ago. The "card" is actually a CD-ROM with various features on it.

The other day, I fired up my computer screen recorder and captured my computer playing through the program. I stepped through each feature, so feel free to pause in order to read on-screen text as needed.

I have always been fascinated by electronic/digital versions of trading cards, and even had the VERY good fortune to talk with one of the folks behind the Digibles Digital Trading Cards (CyberAction) company back in 2010:

PunkRockPaint - Star Wars Galactic Greats Set

(Youtube Video: https://youtu.be/dyyWxcqtkyE)

What I present to you today is one of the greatest custom card sets I have ever seen. And now, I own a set! These are the Galactic Greats Card Set from PunkRockPaint (aka Travis Peterson). Holy smokes, these things are fantastic!

It's not just the cards, though. The entire packaging screams of 1977 Kenner Star Wars action figures! The hanger card is styled perfectly and beautifully. The back includes fun tidbits and a special appearance by that ever-frustrating toy, Boba Fett with "shooting" missile - yeah, you know the one that DIDN'T shoot because kids might choke on it!?

The cards are made of great card stock, featuring each of the 30 MLB teams represented as a Star Wars reference. On the back are hand-drawn "Galactic Greats" comics with wonderfully referenced captions.

These really are that good! (Click images to see larger views)

Now, if you've scrolled down this far, you are about to be told a secret... Sshhh... I actually ordered TWO of these packs!! Why is that a secret? Because I am giving away one of the packs during a future free agent draft!! That's right, *YOU* could win! Now, I haven't decided if I am doing the pack as one "card" or if I am going to separate them out and let folks pick the individual card(s) they'd like to draft - either way, this will be open to *ALL* readers, even if you aren't yet a manager in the PAD Circus 2016! Stay tuned for details. If you have a preference - whole pack or individual cards, feel free to comment below. I'll think about which direction to take.

PunkRockPaint'd - Again!

The other day, I received an envelope in the mail from Punk Rock Paint! This turned out to be filled with things he forgot to include in the last package he sent. Rather than just post scans, I thought I'd give you some "Photo Booth Fun" with them:

First up, we have a Topps Attax Grady Sizemore:

Next, I thought I'd try the"glow" effect with the "Indians team card:"

What better way to show off this Lofton HoloGrFX than to set things on X-Ray:

Let's bust out the "Comic Book" styling for another Indians team card:

Here's me going all "Andy Warhol" on ya with a Jason Donald card:

Playing the retro theme for a little Chooooo:

Aaron Laffey throws the ball in your face in sepia. Why? Why not:

Oooo, another Choooo card:

This Jim Hegan is in great shape! The off-center cut is perfect for the time of the card:

Pulling out the Black and White for Houtteman:

Mr. Hooper, no not the guy from Sesame Street:

Going all thermal for Bobby Avila... What a freaky effect:

A *HUGE* thank you goes out to Travis for these!

I really got to get my trade-able collection built up again so I can send out cards again!  Man, I miss those days.

PunkRockPaint'd

(Note: The pictures uploaded in some weird reverse order or something, so the text does not quite match up.  I tried to fix it, but only made it worse...  I am blaming my watching of "1408" while I posted this as the reason.)

As mentioned in my post of the cards WhiteSoxCards sent me, Mr. Peterson (aka PunkRockPaint) also sent me a package that was truly packed with Tribecards.

There are more than 100 cards easy. I figured it would be fun to break each photo into a particular thought/idea. So, lets start off with an array of brands: Fleer Futures, Topps Archives, Topps, UD Masterpieces, Fleer Ultra, UD Starquest, Topps Chrome, Donruss Signature Series, Fleer Showcase Wave of the Future, Fleer Brilliants, Metal Skybox, Topps Allen & Ginter, UD SP Top Prospects, Donruss Regular, UD Ionix, Topps Gold Label, Topps Stadium Club, Fleer Regular, Bowman Chrome, Pinnacle Museum Collection, UD Diamond Collection, Donruss PressProof, Topps Turkey Red, UD Sweet Spot Classic. And, that's just in the first stack:

For the next group of cards, let's talk about players: Bob Feller, Ryan Drese, Travis Foley, Victor Martinez, Albert Belle, Casey Blake, Fason Beverlin, Russell Branyan, Paul Byrd, Sandy Alomar Jr, Roberto Alomar, Jaret Wright, David Huff, Tom Brookens, Manny Ramirez, Frank Robinson, Cory Snyder, David Winfield, Tim Drew, Roger Maris, Eddie Murray, Ryan Mulhern, Orel Hershiser, Satchel Paige, Nathan Panther. Again, those are just the guys in the second stack:

Let's talk about the "mojo" factor, since this next stack (er, I hope, since I am typing this without knowing which images are really being shown where as I write) has a couple worth noting: Fleer Showcase Sticks Game-Used Bat from Roberto Alomar, Fleer Premium International Pride Game-worn jersey of Ivan Gonzalez. Other stacks have serially numbered cards, limited parallels, etc.

How about die-cuts, autographs, and such? SP Marquee Matchups, Donruss X-Ponential Power, UD PowerDeck CD, Pacific Christmas Ornament, Fleer E-XL Legion of Boom, Fleer eX E-Xciting, UD UR2K Blue 2353/3500, UD UR2K silver 150/250, UD Authentic Memorabilia Game-Used CC Sabathia Jersey, Bowman Signs of the Future Trevor Crowe and Adam Miller. A great mix of unique cards!

And how about some of the greatest names to have donned a Tribe uniform? Jim Thome, David Justice, Bartolo Colon, Manny Ramirez, Omar Vizquel, Early Wynn, Leon Wagner, Lou Boudreau, Bob Feller, Stan Coveleski, Kerry Wood, Tris Speaker, Joe Carter, Larry Doby, Travis Hafner, Grady Sizemore, and more!

And last but no way least, here are more Indians cards of random greatness:

There are GREAT cards in here!! I can't tell you how much I appreciate this package of cardboard collectible goodness!!

THANK YOU, Travis!!

(A different kind of) Mojo Monday

Oh, yeah! This is "MOJO MONDAY" alright!  I received not just one, but TWO packages in the mail today!! Wahoo!  The USPS Box is from Mr. Peterson (aka PunkRockPaint, of course!) and the bubbleope (not to be hunted in the wild) is from Steve (aka WhiteSoxCards)!

I have not had a chance to go through either one, other than to read the notes inside.  I have to say, one thing we card bloggers seem to share is a whacked-out sense of humor!  I'll share the cards and the notes in a later post.

THANKS so much, guys, for what I know is going to be a fun-filled trip through the Tribe cards packages!!

I Punk'd myself!

Travis, over at PunkRockPaint, has sold out to the man, and is now offering very COOL PRP t-shirts with his "UD-style" logo!

As soon as I saw the post, I ordered one and it arrived today! I have to say it is SWEET, though the 1/2-length sleeves take a bit of getting used to. :-)

If I ever decide on an actual logo for this site, I'd love to do the same thing he did.

Now the question is: Do I send it to him for a TTM auto on it? :-)

My Card...

This is for the folks that have asked me about the photo that's featured in "My Card" on the right these days. Contrary to how things appear, my wife and I were NOT at a game (and I have never been to Progressive) at the time the photo was taken. Instead, the pre-PunkRockPainted photo appears below:
From Indians-Rangers Game

When we in the card-collecting blog world say PRP's got skillz, we know what we're talkin' 'bout...

Birthday cards all around!

On my birthday, I received two very cool gifts! The first one is what you see above: a custom-made card from PunkRockPaint! Some time ago, he asked his readers to send a picture and he would create a card just for them. I sent this and asked that it be put on a 1991 Topps card design. I hadn't seen it in my inbox until today (I had a lot of cleaning up to do!), and I have to say it is great stuff!! Not that I had any doubts - Travis is one of the most talented folks I know of! Why 1991? That would be the date Shan and I got married, of course!

Thank you VERY MUCH for this great gift!

The next gift I received came all the way across the ocean to get to me. A great package from JackPlumstead! A while ago, he posted an article about 'sample' and 'promotional' cards and asked if anyone knew anything about them. I piped up, since I have something of a penchant for oddball stuff, and in return he sent me some very cool cards! I will post more about them on "Things Done to Cards" in a bit.

In addition to the sample/promos, John included a selection of TRIBERS!! Sweet!

Included in the mix of Indians were:
1991 Donruss Sandy Alomar
2008 UD Timeline Travis Hafner (I got Pronk'd!)
2008 Topps Heritage Jeremy Sowers (Black back)
2008 Topps Heritage Jeremy Sowers (Green back)
1999 Topps Finest Bartolo Colon
1999 Topps Manny Ramirez
2000 Fleer Gamers Jim Thome
1975 Topps Mini John Ellis
2008 Topps Heritage Kelly Shoppach (Green back)
2001 UD 70's Award Winners Gaylord Perry
2001 UD MVP Travis Fryman
2001 UD MVP Roberto Alomar
2001 Fleer Tradition Sandy Alomar
2001 UD Ed Taubensee

I have no idea what the difference between the black and green backs are on the Heritage cards, or if there even is one.

This was a great surprise to get on my birthday!! Thank you so much, John!!

Fantasy Uniforms from PunkRockPaint

As many of you know, I have a tendancy to leave comments on other blogs that have unforeseen consequences. To borrow another of my favorite quotes, "And even when we act for the noblest of reasons, the last link of the chain all too often drips with someone's blood." Only in this case, the last link results in the team uniforms for the "PunkRockPaint" fantasy baseball league:

You see, on PunkRockPaint's site, I left a comment saying something about how my players would have to play in their skivvies....

I have to hand it to PRP - there is talent in that very twisted mind! :-)
