PAD Circus Revisited, Update of sorts

Image result for tribecards pack-a-daily circus

The Pack-A-Daily Circus (PAD Circus, for short - PAD even shorter) was a fun event I ran for several years here on the blog. In a nutshell, I opened one pack of cards for every day during the regular baseball MLB season. Readers could choose teams or players, depending on the rules of the given season, and then those would be assigned to the participants.

The original premise was that each participant would get all the cards they "won" during the season. It was a LOT of fun to do! But, the sticking point came in that last bit: they were SUPPOSED to get the cards they pulled during the season. As it turns out, only the very first season or two actually netted anyone getting any cards. There is no one and nothing to blame but myself for that, and that is where we pick things up.

While cleaning out the home office today (Feb 2, 2019), I came across a BUNCH of cards from the  old PAD Circus programs. They are unsorted and are completely mixed together. A responsible handler of such things would dutifully go back through all the posts and figure out which cards belong to which participant. Alas, I am not such a person.

Instead of going back to figure all that out, I am taking the "beg forgiveness, take another route" approach. You see, my revised method of giving these cards away is this: Use the GOOGLE FORM HERE to request a team! Please only one team per person so that everyone gets a chance.

That's right - pick a team, get a BUNCH of cards! Not only will there be cards from the PAD Circus years, but I am including whatever cards I happen to have sitting around. This includes my charity A&G Hobby Case Break, any packs I've opened during the last few years, etc.

ALL FOR FREE!! Yours for the asking! Use the google form link above!

NOTE: I will attempt to go back and refund any money given to me from PAD Circus. I know some of you donated money to help with shipping etc. I apologize for dropping the ball on these.

Quick Pre-Draft Note #PackADailyCircus

Hey everyone! I have *NOT* run the March 21 draft yet. I received my pre-release copy of OOTP, so I have been setting up our fantasy simulation while trying to remember just how I got EVERY historical player to show up in our system. It took me a while, but eventually I remembered how I did it last season.

I will be emailing the four (4) folks that did not submit a draft this time to give them a very small window of opportunity. I know the system has some kinks, so I want to be sure we've all had a chance.

The four are: ProwlingCat, Jafronius, BackstopCards, and SuperDuperMen.

I have also asked JoshD for an add-on to the drafting program. I am waiting to see if my idea can be implemented before I run the draft.

The good news, however, is that I am not waiting to start up another draft! There will another pre-season draft coming to managers very shortly. It will NO names we have used/seen before this season. That way, we can keep moving forward.

As mentioned at the beginning of the PAD Circus 2015, I will be watching rosters, etc. We get 25 players for our active rosters to start things off. So, any managers without at least 25 players before the start of the season will have players randomly assigned to them. Actually, the system calls for a 40-man roster (25 are active), so we may end up with random players anyway. Not sure how the system will handle things until we get in there and try it out.

As always, I appreciate everyone's help and feedback as we move forward!

Oh, and as part of the OOTP pre-order, I will get a steam code for a copy of OOTP16. That will be given away during a special contest coming soon! That is open to ANYONE who reads along.

Thanks for stopping by! I'll keep ya posted!

#PackADailyCircus First Draft, Rookie Mistakes

Greetings, everyone! Sorry for the absolute lack of posting and updating this week. Let's get started with a few things:

First of all, we ran our first pre-season draft! The new Excel spreadsheet is working just as it should, and that is GREAT news for future drafts.

Secondly, I made a mistake and included Mike Mussina in the draft and he was already claimed during the returning manager's initial picks. So, we got that squared away with little issue, so far as I can tell. It was a rookie mistake.

Thirdly, AFTER the draft was over and I had assigned players to teams, I realized I had ALSO mistakenly included Reggie Jackson in the draft list. Dayf already has him and then it turned out that he ended up with him in the draft. Another rookie mistake. Because of the way I have to handle things until OOTP16 comes out, there was no good or easy way to handle this one. All I can do is apologize and move forward.

Fourthly, we had three (3) players left over that did not get selected: BJ Boyd, Jordy Mercer, and Pedro Feliciano. They will be put into the next pre-season draft.

So... here is the list of picks BEFORE the draft:

Here are the results of the draft:

Congrats to all the managers who participated! The next draft will be heading out soon!

#PackADailyCircus #ootp - PLAYOFFS!! Lots to catch up on (Wait, have I said that already? a couple times, even?)

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to the Tribecards Pack-A-Daily Circus Postseason! We've got a LOT to catch up on, so let's get started.

First of all, the ambitious notion of creating "radio broadcasts" of the games is out the window. There are just too many things going in in life to try to pull that off here. That is a bummer, because I just know you would have loved my radio style and witty banter with..er, myself.

So, with that news, I have created a Post Season folder that I am sharing so that you can look over the game logs as we go along. I will post the links to the game log folder and then later in each post, I will provide the actual standings, scores, etc. That way, I can head off any spoilers (or try anyway).

We also have a few packs to bust open as we finish out the actual MLB season, so we'll get those going as well.

We also have our final draft results!  Let's look at those first:

As always, everyone goes into the pot:

Then, the names are sorted in the spreadsheet. Only, I didn't take that screenshot. Instead, like a doofus, I took one of how things looked before I even ran the randomizer. Well, here ya go, for what it's worth - the list before random sorting:

What everyone really came for: the final results:

Just as an FYI, here are a couple stats:

  1. This draft had the most shut-outs we've had all season (4)
  2. We had 24 managers participate
  3. Junction Jack, Dmitri Young, and Aaron Harang each received 15 requests
  4. The Jennings were the only team to grab two players!

Those names were put into the OOTP game before the first game was played. All teams were then given AI lineups and roster changes. Sorry, Jafronius and Otakus, but the expanded roster kinda freaked the post season out, so I had no choice but to give every the "AI Equal Treatment."

The Managers/Players list is updated as well. See the "PAD Info" tab above for the link.

Okay, I know you are dying to see what happened in the first day of playoff action, right!? Before we get there, here is the link to the whole postseason game logs folder:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1Z8vNjtCJDAdXZGcDlWblZ6LWc&usp=sharing#list

The files use the following format:
gamedate - visitor vs home (round, game)
Ex: 0927 - Tribecards at JoshDs (Round 1, Game 1)

SPOILER ALERT!! RESULTS FROM PLAYOFFS APPEAR AFTER THE IMAGE BELOW!!
Stop here if you want to go view the game logs for yourself before seeing the scores/standings.

You have been warned...

Okay, here we go!! Here are the results of the 09/27 games:

Dominic FDNYs vs Missouri Wilsons; Arkansas Tribecards vs California JoshDs; Texas PlayAtThePlates vs Alberta CaptainCanucks; and Illinois Superduperman99s vs Pennslyvania NachosGrandes:

Minnesota gcrls vs Florida Workmans; New York BoRosnys vs Ontario Kazis; Kentucky Quarrys vs New Jersey Hadsalls; and Wisconsin Thorzuls vs Virginia Dawgbones:

Congratulations all 1st game winners!! This is a "Best-of-Five" round, though, so plenty of time for those trailing to win.

I am a day behind, I know. So, I will let these stand. There is no game scheduled for the 29th in OOTP, so I will post the scores from the 28th's games on the 29th. Clear as mud? Well, just keep checking back.
