Thome passes Killebrew, gets special message
I know I am late to the party on this one, but kudos to Thome for his dual homers (and a freakin triple if you can believe it!) on July 3, 2010. With those homers, he took solo place of the 10th spot in all-time home runs, passing Harmon Killebrew. After the feat, the Twins HOFer relayed a special video message to Thome and the fans. In the video, Killebrew told Thome he was proud and what an upstanding guy Thome is, and what he means to the sport. I can't even imagine what Jim Thome was thinking as he watched that.
I don't know how many years Thome has left in him, but over his career, he has steadily, surely, strongly been soldifying his place in the baseball Hall of Fame.

Thome is and always has been a class act, doing his job and doing it well without a lot of attention or fanfare. One day he will finally get his due when he is enshrined in Cooperstown.
ReplyDeletetwo really classy guys. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Thome looks great in a Twins uni.
ReplyDeleteThome deserves everything he accomplishes. I am so proud of him for reaching that home run mark. Every White Sox fan misses him in Chicago.
ReplyDeleteHis fan base continues long after he has left a team he's played for. When he hit his last milestone, Phillies fan gave him a standing O and he was playing AGAINST them. That say a LOT about the man, the player, and his legacy.
ReplyDeleteWhen one looks back in the next 20 years at the decade of the 1990's to first part of the 21st century in baseball history, hopefully they will respect what Jim Thome has done for the game of baseball and all of it without ever juicing up as other contemporaries. The first tshirt I ever bought at Jacobs Field was a jersey shirt of Thome and I wish now I knew whatever happened to it. And so wish that he could have finished his career in a Tribe uniform. Who knows...maybe he will sign a one day contract eventually to do just that. Go Jimmy!
ReplyDeleteMe too, Tim! I hope he does what Lofton did - come back, play for the Tribe then exit the MLB ready to have his HOFer jersey be a Tribe uniform. :-)
