I'm Published! (off-topic, but then what isn't with me!?)

Well, it's official! After working through several short (and some are short, short) stories, and walking through the publishing process at LuLu.com, I have published my first collection of short stories!

I have to tip my Indians cap to Thorzul for not only pointing the way to LuLu.com, but for also helping with some of the logistics. Thanks a bunch!!

You can buy the book here!

"All This Digging and other stories" is my debut collection of short fiction. Each story gives the reader a glimpse in a moment of time into the lives of the characters portrayed in each tale. While none of them are card-related, or even sports-related, really, in this collection, I know some of you are avid readers and thought I'd share the announcement of my first venture into print (of this magnitude) with you.

Different stories will appeal to different tastes. I hope hope that each reader will find a little of himself or herself in here somewhere. If not, then he or she will certainly find bits of me in each one! Good luck. Thanks for reading!

And, if you order a book during the Labor day weekend, you can take 20% off!! Just use the word WHITE when you check out!! How cool is that!?

You can buy the book here!

Thanks for reading my own version of the "I've Sold Out" post. :-)

Just sayin...

I used this image last spring for another post. I thought I would recycle it in order to present a pictorial comment on the state of things in Cleveland.

We could seriously use some help in getting our little red wagon back together and on track again. Let's hope it doesn't take a decade! Hang in there fans, we'll be singing "Tribe Time Now" again soon...

Is this heaven? No, it's Iowa. I could have sworn it was Heaven...

Welcome to Iowa! Specifically, welcome to Van Meter, Iowa!

Now, many of you may be asking yourself something akin to, "Just why in the world is David so jazzed about some little town in Iowa, for crying out loud?"

I'll give you a not-so subtle hint:

That's right, it is home to the Bob Feller Hometown Museum! Now, I have never been there myself. Instead, Joe, over at RedsCards took a little trip through there and sent me some cool gifts, including the tri-fold brochure above!

In addition to that, he included a postcard with a closeup of the brickwork on the side of the museum!!

But, wait, there's more!

Below is a BBHOF yellow plaque card from Cooperstown. You can order a set of these from the Hall of Fame. What really makes this a truly special gift is what's at the top:

Yeah, buddy! You got that right! That is Bobby Feller's auto in blue Sharpie on that card! SUH-WHEAT!

This is a wonderful gift and surprise, Joe!! That is awesome! I'll put together a Reds pack as soon as I build up some more Reds cards, for sure!!

Thank you, VERY much for these cool items!

For those that are curious, the Bob Feller Museum is about 215 miles from the site of the "Field of Dreams" from the movie. And, yes, I looked it up.

Thome to the Dodgers

One of my all-time favorite players has been traded to the LA Dodgers. Jim Thome will join his former teammate, Manny Ramirez, on the west coast in a deal between the Dodgers and the White Sox.

Talk about opposite personalities. Manny is "being Manny" more than ever, as evident in yesterday's little league-like performance at the plate and in the field. He has grown into a cocky, self-centered person who happens to play baseball. Frankly, I think he has forgotten what a privilege it is to play in the majors.

Thome, on the other hand, has quietly moved up the ranks in the game, achieving milestones while still remaining a person of character and integrity. He is one of the most likable guys in the sport, and stands in stark contrast to the obnoxious Ramirez.

Of course, I would have loved to see Thome come back home to the Tribe, but there is no way current ownership and management would have ever let that happen. I can only assume Thome will finish his MLB career in Dodger Blue, but a guy can always dream that his favorite player returns to his (my) favorite team.
