#PackADailyCircus - Drafting Good Eyes, Not So Good Eyes, and a Surprise!

I have finally run the August 3rd draft! Whew, what a doozie! I have to give the "Good Eye! Good Eye!" award tonight to Bo Rosny who tried to draft Mickey Tettleton. Tettleton is a free agent, but I forgot to list him, so he should appear in the next draft.

I also have to give Bo the "Swing and a miss" award for trying to draft several players already taken! Actually, in a weird way, the picks were all from the last draft and appeared to have been part of some cut/paste error.

Okay, first order of business: Get everyone in, er, order - randomly:

After everyone was put in order, I conducted the draft:

How on earth I ended up with Jake Taylor is truly bizarre. Just about everyone had that card listed first! We did manage to have a shut-out, though: the BCs. :-( Man, I hate shut-outs.  As you can see, there are a LOT of names to be assigned to players in ootp. Seeing as how it is 10:49pm CST as I write this, it isn't going to happen. RRGGHH. Well, I will still run the game (or try to) and post the current standings WITHOUT the players above. In the meantime, I have to sort through things and get the next draft ready.

PLUS....

That's right! We have a box of 2014 Allen and Ginter Hobby to bust open along with a 2013 MLB Chipz pack! I received several donations to help buy the hobby box and will use the box in my attempt at this year's Gint-A-Cuffs.  I've got to make some quick decisions about these cards in terms of the OOTP game.

The Chipz are as follows:

Ryan J Braun - Brewers - Thorzuls (Wahoo!!)
Matt Kemp - Dodgers - Night Owls (Wahoo!!)
Mets Logo Vinyl - Mets - Dawgbones (Wahoo!!)
Johan Santana - Mets - Quarrys (Wahoo!!)
Pedro Alvarez (gold?) - Pirates - BCs (Wahoo!!)

Well, the BCs may have been shut out of the draft, but certainly cashed in on Chipz! Nice one. We managed a Perfect Pack to boot!! That is awesome! Congrats, everyone!

  1. You are really going to bust a whole hobby box of Ginter just to give it away! WOW! I have never been able to bust a hole box of Ginter ever. If there is is a such thing as Karma you should win Gint-A-Cuffs.

    1. Haha, yep, that's my plan! I think karma came when I won the boxload of stuff from CrackinWax. :-)

    1. Before each baseball season, I hold a "Call for Managers" in which anyone can sign up to get free cards. During the regular baseball season, I bust open at least one pack of cards (any brand, year, etc) and if the participating managers have the player on their team, they get the card(s). If no one has that player, then the player is a free agent for the next draft. Managers set their pick list and I run a serpentine draft to dole out players that get added to the respective manager's list. At the end of the season, I pack up everyone's cards and send them to the managers. Though, technically, I still have last season's cards to dole out to some managers - but, they know I'm good for it and the whole thing is free so not many folks complain about my not-so-speedy delivery time. Anyway, feel free to spectate this season and hope you will join us next season!

    2. Oops, that should have said "one pack of cards per day!"

    3. Well, dang. Okay, more info: This season, I am tying the giveaway to a simulated game in the program OOTP15. So, the players drafted actually show up in the simulated game (haha, even non-baseball players, mascots, just about any card we see!). At the end of the OOTP season, the winning manager gets a bonus specific to his/her collection and/or roster. PLUS, I participate in the Gint-A-Cuff contest each year, and the cards I bust for that are being given away to the managers in my giveaway. Still confused? Then you'd fit right in! Haha, we stay confused for the better part of the season around here - it gets a bit crazy.

  3. How this works is that David is the MOST GENEROUS blogger out there. There are a lot of generous people in our little world, but David is at the top of the list.

    1. Thanks, I appreciate that! :-) I found a fun way to give back to the collecting community - mainly because I am no good at trading. Haha!

  4. Yes, thanks David and sorry for causing trouble in this draft! (I backtrack through your posts going back to the last draft instead of looking at the list in your email. Usually that doesn't cause any issues...
