#PackADailyCircus - Tis the Season

Hey all!
I've updated the OOTP14 game: http://tinyurl.com/padcircus/ so feel free to see how well (or, in my case how poorly) your team is doing so far.  BTW, managers, if you don't like your team's nickname, let me know and I'll be happy to change it. I went by the name you gave during sign-up or made one up if you didn't provide one. I am not stuck to these, though. I can easily make your team YOUR team!

As a matter of conversation, before I run the simulated games each time, I have the AI set the line-ups, etc. That way, teams with injured players can sub those, pull rotations set by the game, etc. I was told OOTP does a good job of handling the day-to-day stuff. Plus, I figure if I do that for everyone, then no matter what, we can all blame (or praise) the program for our team's performance.

I mentioned the other day that I had gone to Target over the weekend and picked up some 2014 Stickers.  Let's see what one of the packs has to offer:

Chris Archer - Rays - Free Agent
Anthony Rendon - Nationals - Free Agent
Puzzle #312 - Yeah, I have no idea what to do with puzzles like this.
Jhoulys Chacin - Rockies - Quarrys (Wahoo!!)

Ryne Sandberg - Cubs - Pedersejs (Wahoo!!)
Atlanta Braves Mascot - Free Agent
Martin Perez - Rangers - PlayAtThePlates (Wahoo!!)
Fredbird - Cardinals Mascot - Free Agent

First of all, congrats to the managers who pulled players today! Secondly, Mascots are treated just like players. They will be drafted and I will create OOTP players for their manager's team. It will be just like the SUN SUN in the last draft...

Hmm, I just tried to pull SUN SUN's stats and s/he doesn't have a player page. Not sure what happened there. Oh well, hopefully there will be a page eventually. Still not sure how some of this OOTP works.

  2. I don't know whether to make a trade for cards I want, or to improve my team.......

    1. I am hoping to merge the two and improve my team with players I want as there are a couple Free Agents available who are players I collect and happen to also play positions that are weak on my team. All the other Free Agents after those two guys are prioritized entirely by team need, though. Is it odd that I am keeping a prioritized list of available Free Agents for this imaginary league?

    2. 3B Scotty Ingerton was injured while angrily throwing his controller after losing in a baseball video game. The Diagnosis: strained back. This is a day-to-day injury expected to last one week.

  3. I need the stats on Fredbird to see if he is worth drafting. Particularly, how good is he at middle relief?

Raz, you are going to start giving people ideas...

  4. Here are some of the remaining HOFers/Potential Inductees that are still undrafted:
    Alan Trammell
    Bert Blyleven
    Billy Wagner
    Bruce Sutter
    Craig Biggio
    Cy Young
    Don Sutton
    Edgar Martinez
    Enos Slaughter
    Gary Sheffield
    Goose Gossage
    Hank Greenberg
    Honus Wagner
    Jack Morris
    Jim Bunning
    Juan Marichal
    Mike Mussina
    Rafael Palmeiro
    Robin Roberts
    Roy Campanella
    Sammy Sosa
    Tony Perez
    Whitey Ford
    Willie McCovey

The biggest surprises to me were McCovey and Biggio. There is also a fair amount of 1970s/1980s pitching available. But you'll have to pull one of their cards first! :-)

  5. Haha, this is great!! In my own twisted thinking, these are exactly the kinds of conversations I hoped would take place. There is something about connecting the cards to players in a game (simulated or not) that seems to make things more... relevant or real or... something. I, of course, am watching my own team struggle and I am having the same thoughts: do I wait to collect cards I actually want or do I go for players I need to pull my team up and then hope to trade them later!?

  6. I was able to cover most of my player collections with the initial draft, but that left me short of any real star players and also left a few roster positions uncovered. That list that Josh D. posted had me slapping my forehead a little at some of the names I could have had easily in the initial draft, but now will have to devote first round picks and beat the randomizer to acquire their services. I'm not going to name specific players because I don't want other teams in my division to sabotage my drafts. The CaptainCanucks are tough enough as it is.

Cards will come and go, but PackADaily glory is forever. I think I'm going to need a spreadsheet...
