(Quick note: These are *not* my cards. Ryan was nice enough to share photos of *his* cards!)
First of all, a HUGE thank you to Ryan Dunn of Milwaukee, WI! Evidently while doing his own research on the "Major League" movie card set, he came across a post I made last year (here) concerning the legitimacy of the set. I had done some pretty extensive research and only ran into dead ens and "fake" cards.
The other day, Ryan left a comment that he knew of the set and actually OWNS IT! Say WHAT!? So, I asked him to send me some pics. He posted them to his FaceBook page:

I am reposting them here so I have a copy, too. :-) I have only seen the set listed in ONE baseball card pricing guide ever. I think I may even have it in one of the older guides I own. Heck, I might have even scanned it and posted it here before! I'll have to look and see. If I do have it, I'll be sure to send Ryan a copy of the pricing. THANK YOU so much, Ryan! In one comment, you said you may own the only set in existence at this point. I think you may be right! I even hired a company to look for the set and THEY couldn't find anyone with it!
That is AWESOME!!!
ReplyDeletevery cool.
ReplyDeleteThose are great ! I've been looking ever since your last post!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I'm jealous. Pretty cool looking cards too.
ReplyDeleteDo we know who made them?
I am just as jealous! I should have been clearer that these are HIS cards - LOL! The cards were distributed by "Super Bubble" which was part of the old Leaf company.
ReplyDeleteThose are some awesome cards! It is interesting you that you posted them yesterday. I just watched the movie yesterday to get in a happy mood since we are covered in snow in Ohio.
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome.
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Nice one.
ReplyDeleteDavid, they're very cool.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason you fell off my blogroll for a while :( but that has been fixed. My apologies.
DC, I have fallen off EVERYONE'S radar as of late. I am way behind on several card-related projects, including getting caught up on my blog-reading!!
ReplyDeleteThose cards are awesome... definitely want a set for the collection!
ReplyDeleteVTC - You and me both!
ReplyDeleteFortunatly for me, I have a few unopened packs from the original Major League the movie. There was about a couple thousand given away as the extras ( crowd ) entered the Milwaukee County Stadium for filming. So their are a few around. What would you say the value is for each set ? Thanks for any help.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in landing a set or two of these.

ReplyDeleteI live in Texas but bought this set from a place in Wisconsin a while back (can't remember the name of the town off-hand). In addition to the cards above, my set also has a card of the three coaches together. I have never seen a pricing for the set, but it is one of my favorites, and I have kept the cards safe in top-loaders. I tried Google for more information, and came across this site. Has anyone seen any other sets or heard how much they are selling for? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOne reader offered to sell a set to me for about $300 or so. Uh, no. I offered nearly $10 per card for the set. While they seem to be hard to come by, I personally don't believe they are "ultra rare." It's just a matter of finding the folks who have them and are willing to part with them.
DeleteHaha. Yeah, that's a bit steep. But even though I didn't pay near that for mine, I wouldn't part with it for that much either. So it probably is just a matter of finding the right person. You would think there would be plenty if they really gave them to all the "extras" at County Stadium. The place looked packed in the movie. Hah. I enjoyed surfing your site. Thanks for the feedback!
ReplyDeleteid be interested in purchasing a set or even singles. I can be reached at jeserone@aol
ReplyDeleteI have the set....please make me an offer....jskubal@hotmail.com!
ReplyDeleteI was in the movie " Major League " and the 2 biggest crowds were on consecutive nights when they raffled off a car per night. I remember one car being a Horizon. But those nights drew 13, xxx & 14,xxx consecutively . The rest never of the days or nights never had over 5,xxx. So a lot of movement by the fans to be placed in the sections behind the scenes being shot.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the baseball cards, only maybe a thousand was given away because their was only 2 boxes and at the most ...500 per box. These boxes were not that big. The writer David Ward and actors like Charlie, Wesley, Corbin.etc...did not even get a shrink wrapped pack. Other items from Best Buy for example TV's, Movie Rental Cards, Binoculars, Boom Boxes, etc...were raffled off during breaks in the filming to keep people in the stands. Each person including children received a raffle ticket upon entering Milwaukee County Stadium.
It has been 25 years since the movie was filmed at Milwaukee County Stadium.
I have 2 of the shrink wrapped sets in absolutely perfect ( even the corners as I have No children ) condition I am thinking of selling but also have No idea how much. It would have to be near $500 or I would not even think about it. And that is per set! Otherwise I will leave them to a nephew when I pass away. I can see these only going up in price because of the children at the filming took the cards from their parents and were playing with them at the filming. Those are either very beat up or long gone by now? ( again 25 years ago )
There are people that would pay that for the set, easily. I am not one of them. No matter how you cut it, these are little bits of cardboard. I do know that they are "more than that" to a lot of collectors, and from emails I've exchanged with other people who one the sets, I know that $500 is pretty well in the ballpark of the amount they wanted. Always remember, however, things are only worth as much as someone is willing to spend on them. Thanks for sharing your story, though! That would have been cool to have taken part in the film!
DeleteThere are some on EBAY right now, currently $199
