Cards from Castle

To be honest, I wasn't sure what to call this post, but here aare few of my ideas:

"When you think Billy Ripken, you think..."
"The O in Ohio means Orioles"
"I got tricked, or treated, or somethin"
"When is a trick not necessarily a trick?"
"can I have a Mulligan, er Milligan?"

Why would I contemplate such tomfoolery when discussing the receipt of a box of cards? Well, follow along and you shall see.

First up, we have a supreme Bob Feller Collect-A-Books! This is followed by Albert Belle, Manny Ramirez and how about Gaylord Perry on a Kellogg's 3D card? Yeah, and then add to that three score trivia cards featuring the Tribe along with some stickers and a few Team USA cards from 1985. The Snyder shown here is a Tiffany verssion, but I also got the non-Tiffany as well. The rest of the cards in this group are Fleer Tradition - gotta love the horizontals:

Also in the box were more Traditions along with Topps and 1999 Donruss. There were about 5 or 6 Thome duplicates, which always works for me! As you may know, not only do I collect Tribe cards, but I have a collection of 'Other Players' that I like to collect, and when I get duplicates of Indians players, I will often put one of the dupes in that 'other' collection. Of course, a lot of that depends on who the player is, and Thome falls into that category, as do Roberto Alomar, CC, and other Indians who have gone on to other teams in their careers.

Next, we've got more '99 Donruss and then a VERY cool Sexson Topps Chrome. It's a "New Milennium Stars" insert. Baerga is featured on a Hostess Baseballs oddball card, and then we have a SportFlix ProMotion Manny Ramirez insert. Awesome!

The box also included an unopened pack of 1992 Donruss:

But, with all these Tribe cards, how would I come to a title that discusses Orioles and tricks-or-treats?

Ah, therein lies the rub. You see, in addition to the Indians cards, there is quite a number of non-Indians cards, most of which are Orioles. Why would Mr. Castle include Orioles in a box to TribeCards? What does Billy Ripken have to do with anything?

You see, these Orioles (and a Dodger and Astro) were once members of The Tribe!

I have to tell you, I had to look some of these guys up myself. Malicki? Never heard of him. Milligan? Nope. But, after checking them out, they did play for the Indians as some point in their careers one played for 8 whole games, but still).

This shows some serious research-ability on the part of Mr. Castle! To pull up some of these very obscure Indians players made my own discovery a whole lot of fun! I had a blast trying to 'decode' the non-Indians players in the box. some of them were obvious - Murray, Lofton, Baines, Anderson, and yes even Havens I knew. Excellent work! Thanks for the cards and for expanding my Tribe-al knowledge!!

As for the cntents of the 1992 Donruss... Well, that'll be over on "A Pack A Day..."
