Round 1 - Tuesday's (8/12) Results

Thanks for tuning in folks! I have arranged the matches in order of seeding to make things a little easier to follow along. Check out today's latest action! Joey and Erin, are a little behind, but have no fear folks, the games will go on!!


Round 1, Match 1 - As you may have noticed, this tourney features several players representing the Blue Jays, and in the bottom of this match, MMosley sends his team to bat. He played some great defense and kept Madding (Athletics) from scoring earlier in the inning. The Blue Jays (MMosley) send #07 to the plate. The lead-off batter gets a piece of the bottom of the ball and sends this one into the air and Madding's Athletics grab it easily. That's 1 down. Batter #02 gets into the batter's box, takes a practice swing to show the pitcher where he wants this pitch. The pitcher throws, and MMosley brings the bat around and squares up for a surprise bunt! Having caught the defense off-guard, he easily snags a bunt single. 1 man on, 1 out, and the third batter comes to the plate. Let's see what #27 can do here. The windup and here's the pitch: A solidly hit ball drops in the outfield for a base hit.

That's 2 runners on base and 1 out in the bottom of the first.

Round 1, Match 2 - WhiteSoxCards vs. Joey - Joey's Rangers are up to bat in the bottom of the first inning. Joey can select his three spots from these: 02, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 32


Round 1, Match 3 - Chris B heads up another Blue Jays team, this one is playing against TasteLikeDirt's Braves. Chris B's Jays were able to send the Braves to the dugout in a 1-2-3 outing. The first player to bat for ChrisB's Jays is #3. The pitcher is pretty ticked off after the top of the inning showing, and he fires three smokin' hot pitches that send #3 down swinging. #25 comes up to bat next. Let's see what happens here. The Jays connect with the pitch and send it flying deep, but it's just not high enough and the Braves easily grab the ball for a fly out. That's two out with no one on base yet. ChrisB makes a call, but catches himself before a penalty can be assessed, and makes a quick substitution! He brings in #16 to see if he can start something here in the bottom of the first. Unfortunately, the batter knocks the ball up into the air, and the catcher gets under it. A pop fly ends the inning for ChrisB.

After 1 inning in this match-up, we're tied at 0-0 as we wait for TasteLikeDirt to come up to bat in the second.

Round 1, Match 4 - You heard it here folks - Motherscratcher is "giddy with anticipation" at his prospects in the first inning. He managed to hold Chris(M) to a scoreless first, leaving two men stranded. First up to bat for Motherscratcher's Royals is #11. The pitch comes in across the plate and the batter gets handcuffed, sending the ball rolling back to the pitcher who easily sends it over to first for a ground out. Let's see if the "giddy"-ness can counteract that out! #17 takes his place at the plate and waits for the pitch. Here's the toss... And the batter pops the ball straight up into the air. The Royals make a routine pop fly catch for out number two. We've got two outs and the bases are empty here in the bottom of the first inning. The hometown crowd wants to see some action! Let's see if #22 can give it to them. Evidently, word has gotten around the playing fields here, and #22 comes around and lays down a bunt himself! The catcher comes up to grab the ball. He throws to first, but it is NOT in time and Motherscratcher is SAFE at first!

Round 1, Match 5 - Erin vs. Voltaire - Erin is up in the top of the first with 2 outs and a runner on first base. Erin has less than 24 hours to pick her next three spots or I will get to choose for her... Let's cheer her on! Round 1, Match 6 - Dayf is having a killer first inning, leading 4-0 over Kevin with 2 outs. He sends in #18 and Kevin's pitcher WALKS him! So, with a man on base and 2 outs, Number 05 steps up to the plate. The batter connects with the pitch and sends this puppy flying deep to left field. The fielder makes a bee-line for it. The ball is just out of reach... WAIT a minute, folks! Holy smokes! The left fielder stretched out in a horizontal dive, landing hard on the ground, but he manages to somehow grab the ball in his glove before it hits the ground! What an amazing catch! That's gonna be a Top 10 Play for sure!

The Marlins (Kevin) finally end the Rockies (Dayf) incredible first inning run, stopping the bleeding at 4 runs, but not before the Rockies managed to get yet another player on base.
