1982 Davco Hall of Famers

These bright blue babies came out in 1982, issued by Davco.  They feature painted artwork representing 25 Hall of Fame players.  Some of the pictures feature team logos and insignia, while others do not.  The backs are blank, and the stock is almost like that of a cereal box. Pretty heavy stock.

1982 Topps Stickers

In 1982, Topps continued their mini stickers with album, only this time, they put red borders around the stickers.  I guess when you take several pictures of the players, ya gotta do something them!  That Rick Manning (lower right) sure reminds me of a photo on a card I've seen. I'll have to see if I can find that.

The back had the players' names, sticker number, and an ad for you to get more stickers. Although, really, the ad is for you to buy an album so you can see how to get more stickers.  Clever.  In today's lingo (and if this were online), we'd have a clickthrough.

1981 Drake's Big Hitters

In 1981, Drake's teamed up with Topps to create a 33-card set of "Big Hitters" that featured players from the previous season.  I would love to see Topps team up with brands today to offer oddball itmes like this again.

1981 Kelloggs, 1981 Topps Scratch-Offs, 1981 Fleer Star Sticker

As you may be able to tell, I have many of my oddball items in their own binders.  In this case, I have three different card types in one pocket page.  You may also notice I have "customized" the pockets to accomodate the scratch-offs.  It's what I do when I see the need.

Starting with the Scratch-Offs, I have to admit that even I do not know why I kept these as single panels.  After all, I am all about letting the cards be free.  I guess since none of the dots had been removed, I couldn't make myself tear the little guys apart.  I must have had a weak moment there.  The cards allow collectors to play a game by building up teams and scratching spots for various outcomes.  I'm not sure I have ever actually scratched any of the cards in the set to know what the reveals look like.  In 2007, I wrote an entry about them: http://www.tribecards.net/2007/10/1981-topps-scratch-offs.html.  

Kellogg's released another version of their 3D Superstars in 1981, and I happen to own two of the Indians from the set.  I'm thinking they took some serious liberty with the term "3-D" in those days.

And finally on this page, I have an example of the 1981 Fleer Star Stickers.  I think I have more than this one in the 1980-1981 binder. If so, we'll see more of these later.

1980 Kellogg's 3D Superstars

This set represented 10 years of Kellogg's creating 3D-style baseball cards found in cereal boxes.  In those days, the cards were actually *IN* the cereal and not just between the bag inside and the box.  Heck, in those days, some cereals didn't even *HAVE* a bag - just the cereal in the box... Ahh.. the good old days.  I digress.  The set features 52 cards, and although several Tribers are among the players, I only have the Thornton above in my collection.  Guess I'll have to do something about that!
