Thome to the Dodgers

One of my all-time favorite players has been traded to the LA Dodgers. Jim Thome will join his former teammate, Manny Ramirez, on the west coast in a deal between the Dodgers and the White Sox.

Talk about opposite personalities. Manny is "being Manny" more than ever, as evident in yesterday's little league-like performance at the plate and in the field. He has grown into a cocky, self-centered person who happens to play baseball. Frankly, I think he has forgotten what a privilege it is to play in the majors.

Thome, on the other hand, has quietly moved up the ranks in the game, achieving milestones while still remaining a person of character and integrity. He is one of the most likable guys in the sport, and stands in stark contrast to the obnoxious Ramirez.

Of course, I would have loved to see Thome come back home to the Tribe, but there is no way current ownership and management would have ever let that happen. I can only assume Thome will finish his MLB career in Dodger Blue, but a guy can always dream that his favorite player returns to his (my) favorite team.

  1. I missed it. What did Manny do?

I'd welcome back Thome also. The hard part is figuring out where he'd play, considering we owe Hafner 14 mil a year or whatever it is.
